FLORENCE PRICE VIRTUAL
PIANO COMPETITION

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

This competition is for students of all ages from anywhere in the world. It is a way to celebrate the music of Florence Price. The registration cost is only $5USD.

All participants will receive brief feedback from a judge. Furthermore, students who receive a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or honorable mention for their age category will receive a certificate.

RULES

1. This competition is open to piano students of any nationality and is virtual. Videos are due by April 9th at 11:59pm EST.
2. There are many age groups. Age is determined as the age of recording.
3. The age groups are age 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, ages 18-19 high school, college- performance major, college- non-performance music major, college- not a music major, professional performer, private or school music teacher, adult beginner with less than one year of lessons, adult beginner- 1-3 years of lessons, adult recreational pianist with more than 3 years of lessons.
4. The repertoire can be any piece or section of a piece (such as a selected measures, and or RH or LH alone). Selection must be composed by Florence Price.
5. Videos must be unedited (for example: you cannot combine takes), but you may use more than one take.
6. Participants agree that videos may be used as promotional materials for future competitions and for a winner video if applicable.
7. The competition administrator reserves the right to amend any rules if needed.
8. If the competition is canceled, the application fee of $10USD will be refunded.
9. All competitors will receive feedback from a judge. Each age group will be awarded a 1st, 2nd, 3rd certificate (and honorable mention if the judge deems it needed).

ABOUT FLORENCE PRICE

Born April 9th, 1887, Florence Beatrice Price was an incredible composer. She wrote over 300 pieces of music, including concertos, symphonies, art songs, any many pieces for piano and organ.

As a piano teacher, she wrote many pieces that are perfect for beginners, as well as many intermediate and advanced pieces.
